News from the Team

There have been some team changes since our last newsletter.

Daren Felgate (Dementia Care Training Specialist) and Paula Craen (Awards Trainer) have now joined Penny, Sue, Tina, Adrian, Christina and Bob. We are also delighted that Rozelle has returned to us following her Maternity Leave and adventures in Namibia. A big thank you goes to Bob for managing the Awards administration single handed until her return.

Bob now works Monday, Wednesday morning and Friday and Rozelle Tuesday Wednesday afternoon and Thursday and so we once again have full time administrative support.

Daren’s is a new post focusing on Dementia Care Training – please contact him at the assessment & learning centre if you would like to discuss dementia care training - and Paula replaces Tonia Waghorn who left the team earlier this year. More from Daren & Paula later!

Matrix Standard

AgeCare Awards were really proud to be awarded the Matrix Standard in May 2007.

This standard is the quality framework for the effective delivery of information, advice and/or guidance on learning & work.

The matrix was launched in February 2002 by the Department for Education & Skills to promote a national quality standard and framework. We went through a rigorous assessment process and we thank everyone who supplied evidence to the assessor (Andy Millward).

We appreciated the really positive comments made and thank you all for your support of AgeCare Awards.

Daren

Daren joined the AgeCare Awards Team in June 2008. His role is to provide dementia care related learning and development for all AgeCare employees and other organisations. In addition he will support colleagues in all our homes with improving the quality of care and support we offer to people with dementia.

This is a new role that will develop over time. As part of AgeCare’s five year dementia care campaign, this autumn sees the start of new dementia training programmes for all our homes.

Daren has worked in learning and development for more than 15 years and was previously Training Development Manager at the Alzheimer’s Society.

NVQ Funding

We are very pleased to announce that we have been awarded a 2009 LSC contract for Train to Gain funding.

As a Type C provider we can request funding for employers. So please do contact us if you are interested in accessing free NVQ 2 training or partially funded NVQ 3 training. There are certain criteria – but we are only to happy to go through this and the process with you.

Also any organisation with less than 50 employees can access wage compensation as well as the funded training. Contact Penny Dudman or your AgeCare trainer for more information.

Paula Craen joined the Awards team in October. A trained psychiatric and general nurse and also a teacher, she is now hoping to combine her teaching and nursing experience in her role as trainer for Agecare Awards.

She lives in Haywards Heath with her husband, grown up son and two moggies.

Her daughter is recently married and lives and works in London. Family play a huge part in her life and they all have a love of travel.

AgeCare Awards Partner Certificates

Earlier this year we awarded some of our partner homes a certificate to display in recognition of their significant commitment to AgeCare training in 2007.

Homes were selected following set criteria that looked at the varying programmes undertaken, the different levels taken and the achievement rates, thus demonstrating a commitment to training all levels and roles of their staff.

The picture shows Bibi from Harecombe Manor with their certificate.
